Video

This video is a segment of our lecture on Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). Prior to class, students read a research article called Clinicopathological Evaluation of CTE in Players of American Football, and we reviewed the findings of the article and started our discussion the latest discoveries in CTE research.

As part of the discussion, we watch a clip of the testimony from the medical professionals who recently performed an autopsy on former NFL star Aaron Hernandez in the fall, confirming that he had the most severe case of CTE in a young person to date. We review the results and think about what potential implications they have for future criminal cases.

This video is an example how I like to enhance my lectures by include real-world examples and cutting-edge research about topics in the textbook, connect them to my students' interests (e.g., sports psychology, criminology), and facilitate a group discussion.
